Avoid mixing these household cleaners!
April 21, 2020/
Cleaning, scrubbing, disinfecting.
And right now, some of those supplies are hard to come by.
So, some people are trying to make their own blends at home, and that might not be the best of ideas.
According to a new article, here’s some mixtures you might want to avoid:
- Bleach & rubbing alcohol. Add those two & you’ve got chloroform(like in the movies). Not good.
- Bleach & vinegar. Add these together & you get chlorine gas, which was first used as a chemical weapon in WWI
- Bleach & ammonia. This will get you chloramine gas. FYI, Windex & a bunch of other household cleaners have ammonia, so make sure you read the label. Or, stop mixing bleach with other stuff.
- Hydrogen peroxide & vinegar make a toxic compound called peracetic acid and it can cause a LOT of respiratory issues.
If you do have issues with mixing anything at home, call the Poison Control center at 1-800-222-1222.
