Monster Truck Nitro Tour 2023
The Monster Trucks came back to visit us this weekend, and as last year, I brought my oldest for a father/son night. It’s an excellent opportunity for kids to get up close and personal with something awesome. Let’s call a spade a spade. Monster trucks are a pretty easy sell for a 6 year old.
The night started with some pizza at one of my favorite places in town, the Driftless Ax and Arcade. They have a flatbread pizza that I’m particularly fond of, and it was even half price that evening, so I’ll call that a double score. One day, I’ll take the boys there for some ax throwing, but for this night, we kept it to just a pizza, some sodas, and a quick video game.
Then it was off to the show for the pit party. There, we got to meet the drivers, and more importantly to my son, see the monster trucks up close. He was completely blown away at how huge the tires were. He couldn’t believe they were bigger then him.
His favorite truck was Boss Gator. Why? Cause it was a giant alligator monster truck. Again, pretty easy sell for a 6 year old, especially one who loves reptiles.
My favorite was Carolina Crusher. I used to watch monster trucks every weekend on TV when I was a kid. That was a long time ago, and not many of the trucks I used to watch are still around today. One of them, however, was Carolina Crusher. So it was cool to see it again. Even cooler, the ride truck was the Carolina Crusher ride truck, which was the retired and repurposed original truck that I used to watch all those years ago. So that was cool to take a ride in a piece of my childhood.
Then it was showtime. Of course there was the monster trucks. But they also had tough trucks and drone racing. Even cooler, this was “The Neon Experience” where the trucks were decked out in lights, and the stadium lights were brought down so that we could light up the building with our own glow sticks. It was definitely a one of a kind experience. More in the video below.
We’ll definitely be back next year. And this time, my youngest will be old enough to get something out of the experience, so he’ll be joining us for an all Bags family boys night out.
