Ring Doorbell Adventures

Several months back, I got my car broken into and had some money stolen out of it. Well, it wasn’t really “broken” into. To be fair, my dumba$$ left my car unlocked. But the truly infuriating part of the ordeal was, that it happened in my own driveway. It’s violating enough to have something stolen from your vehicle, but the sting hits twice as hard when it happens on your own property. So my wife and I decided to get a little watchdog for our place.

We got ourselves a Ring doorbell.

Let me tell you something. When you get a door camera just after being burglarized, it tends to put you in “wish a mf would” mode. I checked that bad boy religiously for days, but alas, no burglars to bust. But I have made my own fun with it. Annoying the bejesus out of my wife.

The Ring doorbell has a feature where you can use it to talk to whoever is at your door, even if you’re not home. Pretty handy if you wanna talk to guests ringing at your door while you are away. If I happen to be checking my phone when my wife leaves the house with the kids, I’ll pop on and say hi. Scares the hell out of her every time, but my kids love it. They love it so much, they now believe that the doorbell is a “push to talk to daddy” button, and will try to ring it just to talk to me every time they leave the house or come home. I certainly feel loved.

My youngest trying to get some extra daddy attention.

Is a Ring doorbell worth it for security purposes? Yes. Absolutely. But mostly it’ll cause weird interactions with your family and friends. So there will definitely be more stories like this in the future.
