Three things to do in & Around River City this weekend!
The weekend is here, it’s already snowed, and I’m ready for all of the holiday things!
Definitely going to UWL tomorrow for the playoff game against the University of Northwestern. And I’ve got to finish putting up all our Christmas lights & decorations before it gets any colder.
If you’re looking for something to do in the Coulee Region over the next few days, you’re in luck! Here’s a few suggestions:
FRIDAY – 60TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY FAIR @ THE LA CROSSE CENTER
When I had my colon resection in 2010, the doctors advised me to take it easy for a few weeks…no heavy lifting, no strenuous activity…and thankfully, the Holiday Fair was happening the weekend after my surgery, so the wife & I went to the La Crosse Center to walk around and we’ve been going every year since.
I found some great beard balm one year, we get our annual family Christmas ornament at the fair, and we usually end up with a few bags full of gifts for family & friends!
Lots of local vendors & crafty people making all sorts of stuff. Opportunities to get pictures of the kids with Santa Claus & Rudolph. Food, gifts, prizes, and holiday magic! Also, to celebrate the 60th year of the fair, they will be giving out FREE tote bags to the first 1,000 guests each day!
You can see a full list of vendors here.
The 60th Annual Holiday Fair at the La Crosse Center is Thursday & Friday from noon until 8pm, Saturday from 9am until 5pm, and Sunday from 10am until 3pm. Tickets are $5 and only available at the door. Children under 12 get in free with an adult.

SATURDAY – 29TH ANNUAL UWL TURKEY TROT 5K RUN/WALK @ THE UWL RECREATIONAL EAGLE CENTER
Before you load up on stuffing & deviled eggs next week, lose a few pounds this Saturday morning at UWL during the 29th annual UWL Turkey Trot 5k Run/Walk!
The event includes a costume contest, coloring contest, and Junior Gobbler races which feature a dash and half-mile race for younger trotters.
Things get underway on Saturday at 9am at the UWL Recreational Center. Registration for the 5k run/walk is $35 with a t-shirt on the day of the race, or $25 without a t-shirt. Registration for the Junior Gobbler dash is $15 with a t-shirt, or $5 without a shirt. There will be a LIMITED number of shirts available on race day!

SUNDAY – THE LA CROSSE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER SILENT AUCTION & BAKE SALE @ CASTAWAY’S ON THE ISLAND
The La Crosse Community Thanksgiving dinner is held annually on Thanksgiving day at the La Crosse Center. This event celebrates our community and is made possible through the generosity and support of caring individuals and organizations throughout the Coulee Region.
This year, the organizers of the event are also hosting a silent auction & bake sale at Castaway’s on French Island to raise money for the LCTD. This event starts at 2pm and is open to the public.
There will be many different items to bid on! And you can stick around for the Packer game!
