Three things to do in & around La Crosse this weekend.
Two weekends ago, it was the bike giveaway. Last weekend it was the golf outing & the concert. Thinking we might lay kinda low this weekend with a nice vacation to Iron River coming up in mid-October.
We have a few things on the calendar, including the Cult Movie Night on Saturday at the Rivoli Theatre, but nothing work-related going on this weekend for the first time in about four months.
If you’re looking to get out & do something fun this weekend, there’s still a LOT going on in the Coulee Region & the weather should be rather cooperative for some outdoor fun.
Here’s a few suggestions:
FRIDAY – “CASH IN HAND” JOHNNY CASH TRIBUTE @ THE LA CROSSE CENTER
When you get a bunch of insanely talented musicians together who all have an affinity for the Man in Black, you get “Cash In Hand“, the World’s Greatest Tribute to Johnny Cash! Hear all your favorite Cash tunes for only $20!
They’ll be playing on the South Ballroom stage at the La Crosse Center this Friday night starting at 8pm. Tickets for this 21+ show can be purchased in advance here, or you can buy them at the door.
“Cash In Hand” is led by our very good friend, Andy Hughes, of Broken Wrist Records.

SATURDAY – 18TH ANNUAL CHASEBURG SOLE BURNER FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
The 18th Annual Chaseburg Sole Burner is an amazing event that raises money for cancer research & also provides local families with funds to help with travel and care programs. Over the last 17 years, this event has raised over $2 million for the American Cancer Society.
This event is open to EVERYONE and families are welcome to attend. There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive from 8:30am until 11:30am, multiple food trucks, and of course, the walk!
Registration for the walk starts at 11am at the Chaseburg Village Park on Depot St.
There will also be arts & crafts vendors, a live dessert auction, music, a silent auction, bucket raffles, a wine cork raffle, a bounce house for the kids, face painting, and much more!

SATURDAY NIGHT – CULT MOVIE NIGHT @ THE RIVOLI THEATRE & PIZZERIA
I absolutely LOVE what the new owners of the Rivoli are doing and I’m really excited to see where they take these monthly “Cult Movie Nights“.
My wife & I thoroughly enjoy watching horror movies year round, usually on the anniversary of a film’s theatrical release, or if a particular holiday is coming up, we’ll try to watch horror films based on that holiday.
The Rivoli Theatre is going to be showing 1992’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” this Saturday night, starring Kristy Swanson, Pee Wee Herman(RIP), Rutger Hauer(RIP), Luke Perry(RIP), is this film cursed?, Donald Sutherland, Hilary Swank, Stephen Root, Thomas Jane, & others!
Doors open at 5pm for check-in & to order your food, with “Buffy” starting at 6pm. There will be a brief intermission following the film with some behind-the-scenes footage, trivia, & more…and at 8pm, the second half of the Cult Movie Night double feature will be 1984’s “Night Of The Comet“, which serves up some Valley girls fighting off zombies & evil scientists! This film was an inspiration to Joss Whedon who would go on to create the TV version of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”
Stick around after the double feature & enjoy $1 off all drinks in the Lounge!
You can purchase tickets in advance by clicking here.
SUNDAY – VENDOR POP-UP SHOP @ DOGGIE ZEN & DEN
The holidays will be here before you know it, and if you’re looking to get a bit of Xmas shopping done, stop by Doggie Zen & Den in Holmen for their vendor pop-up shop this #SundayFunday
This event will be an indoor/outdoor farmer’s market style vendor pop-up and dogs are WELCOME to attend!
Grab something for yourself, for your furry friend, or maybe for someone on your Christmas list! While you’re there, schedule a grooming appointment! They do FANTASTIC work at Doggie Zen & Den.
This event runs from 1-5pm on Sunday, and you can find more info here.
