Is Love the Guy?
At the start of the 2023 season, Jordan Love will be the starting QB of the Green Bay Packers. But is he really “The Guy”. I’m not sure, but I believe we have plenty to be optimistic about. We haven’t seen him in action much, but from what little we’ve seen, I’ve seen all of the things I’d like to see in a young QB. Let me give a short rundown.
We’ve only seen him on the field for a lengthy period of time. Really it’s 2 games that stand out.
One was in 2021 vs the Chiefs. If you remember, this was the game where he started because we found out Rodgers had lied about his vaccination status. Kansas City took this opportunity to blitz the ever loving crap out of him. He did not play well. He was thrown to the wolves too early, and on the road in one of the craziest stadiums in the NFL. But despite not playing well and taking the loss, all of that blitzing didn’t rattle him. He played about as well as anyone could have in that specific situation.
Another was just last season against the Eagles, filling in for an injured Rodgers. Philly had the game well under control, yet Love showed them why he shouldn’t be underestimated. He made smart throws, kept his composure, and really threatened to bring us back against a team that would later compete in the Super Bowl. In a couple series, he went 6/9 with 113 yards, no sacks or INT’s, and a TD. Again, he made smart decisions, and looked much more comfortable out there on that field. In fact, that is probably the game that mentally prepared me for Rodgers to be gone, and for him to take over.
Is this enough to decisively say that he’s “The Guy”? No. But only time will tell, and I’m very interested in seeing this story play out.
