Things to Look Forward to in the Worst Time of the Year
I’ve always hated this time of year. Right after the Super Bowl, things kinda die down for a while. It’s still too cold to do too many fun things outside. The NBA and the NHL aren’t quite near the playoffs, so they aren’t as interesting yet. And we’re all just in this weird, miserable purgatory.
But there are fun things coming for us all. So here’s a list of 3 things to keep your mind on and get excited for while we wait out this frozen tundra of nothingness.
1. March Madness is Close
One of the most exciting times of the year is the NCAA Tournament. Selection Sunday is on March 13th, and from there, the madness begins where anything can happen. While that’s still a couple weeks out, it’s worth watching a little bit more college basketball now. Our Badgers have certainly given us a lot to cheer for this year, and I expect a good showing from them in the Big Ten Tournament.
2. The St Paddy’s Day .01K
My favorite event that we put on every year comes back, and is back to normal on Saturday March 12th. We walk a whopping 32.8 feet, all in the name of charity, helping out the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse. We also have a few beers doing it. This year, it’s brought to you by Guiness. Super awesome.
Anyway, sign up for that is here if you haven’t already.
3. Baseball (Maybe)
In a normal year, I’d be expressing my excitement that baseball was coming. Spring training games usually start in late February/early March. But unfortunately, this year it seems we’ve hit a bit of a snag with that. The MLB is currently having like, their 6th lockout in my lifetime, and I’m losing faith that spring training can be salvaged. It’s probably too soon to worry about the regular season at this point, but I can’t say it isn’t a concern. So for now, let’s jot this down as a “maybe”, cross our fingers, and hope for the best.
Those are just a few of the things that I look forward to that keep me going this time of year. Hopefully it helps you get your mind in a good place as we move through what I’ve long considered the worst time of year.
